Long Haired Girls

Nothing says “Girl” like shoulder length or longer hair does. If you look around at our beloved cis-womenfolk most of them have hair that length with only a smattering of usually older women with shorter hair. I attribute the observation that older women wear their hair shorter to the fact that they are less patient and are not worried about attracting a mate anymore, so they don't want to be bothered with the fuss of long hair. Maybe they have bought the bill of goods that short hair is what older gals are supposed to wear. Piffle! But of course, I could be wrong in some cases.

I was prompted to write about womens' hair length after reading a screed from Stana's blog (not written by her) that asserted that older women do not look good in long hair. This takes me back to a column I wrote on “Age Appropriate” (AA) dress for crossdressers. The AA assertion is that a woman (we crossdressers included) should not dress like twenty year olds. If I believed that my inventory of 70 some odd miniskirts would be relegated to the second hand store. That is never going to happen.

My response to that comment is – it's utter bunk! Bunk! People to a large extent are as old as they feel. When I don my minskirt and pantyhose and all the rest of my kit including my preferred long hair I for some reason just feel younger and happier. Oh yes. I will never succumb to the AA axiom and start dressing like some of my spinster teachers did back in the 1950s. Skirts down to the ankles? Collars buttoned right to the throat? No way.

I'm not saying short hair on women can't be attractive, I think it depends on the style. Stana's hair looks great in a page boy bob cut. A crew cut on a woman (think a new US Marine) is hard for me to stomach. Hair just looks good. It looks soft and sensual, and tactile. We want to touch it and run our fingers through it. Remember “Brylcreem, a little dab will do ya, Brylcreem, you'll look so debonnaire, Brylcreem, the Gals will all pursue Ya, They'll love to run their fingers through your hair”. Too greasy for me these days. LOL. I prefer long hair on dogs over short hair too. I guess that is why I love to burrow my nose into my Siberian Husky's coat and smell his naturally clean, beautiful fur.

Ok, long hair can be a little hot in summer but the appearance far outweighs that minor inconvenience in my mind. I find that shoulder length hair on a girl (e.g. me) covers up less attractive parts like big or strangely shaped ears (your mileage may vary) or perhaps a little too much skin around the neck, etc. I use my long hair to cover up my bad right eye which is difficult to do with short wigs. One disadvantage of shoulder length hair is the ends of the monofilament tend to dig in and itch the skin. I always use a scarf now to put something between the hair end and my skin. It works. Looks good too.

In our club most of the girls wear long hair, mind you, I have not usually seen them dressed en drab. That's ok. They wear their natural hair long or they don a hairpiece that is often longer than shoulder length. And they look great. Some are approaching senior years which I put at 70 and they still look wonderful with long hair. Plus most are like me and wear pretty short skirts or dresses. And they still look wonderful.

I wonder where this idea came from that older girls should dress more conservatively? Sure, it is a style. An alternative style to a more youthful appearance where girls celebrate what Mother Nature gave them. If a girl is in shape and sports a reasonably height/weight proportional body there should be nothing preventing her from dressing like a 20 year old in my view. It is a style too. Why not capitalize on more revealing clothes if she wants to? I definitely want to.

I have said this before, but it is worth repeating, many MtF dressers have nice legs. Why not let the world see what you have got with a short skirt and nice pantyhose or stockings? The other side of the equation is if she needs to cover up some things like legs that are a little too heavy then by all means wear a longer dress that still is stylish but doesn't show the less desireable traits? I'm not advocating dressing in a manner that may invite a sexual attack but it is acceptable to dress in a style that shows the world (assuming you want to show the world) that you are an attractive woman. Isn't this what most MtF crossdressers want?

When you are seen in public the first thing that people will notice is your hair. Long hair just screams girl or attractive woman. Secondly they will notice a short skirt and your adjoining legs. After that comes your chest. It seems to me that many MtF dressers get by with modest silicone forms. We wear them for a reason. To be recognized as a woman. Most men like a fulsome chest on a woman. Not a size AA bra. Again I'm not saying you should automatically reach for the DD forms unless that is your style. But if you want to be noticed in a good way, long hair, a short skirt and a fulsome chest will likely do the trick.

It seems to me that what we are after is a nice package. Something along the lines of what I have just described. Adding in tasteful makeup (yes, that is in the eye of the beholder) and the accessories like some jewelry just adds to the package. Today the world is your oyster if you want it to be. Men appreciate a nicely dressed, attractive woman. They do. This is why we go to all the trouble to make ourselves attractive in publc. And, somewhat surprisingly, it is pretty easy to provide that contrast to many cis-women who won't take the time and effort to do that. That said, you will find your comfort level when you start going out in public with your girlfriends. If you are not getting noticed and you want to be, there are many things you can do to sharpen up your appearance. I suggest starting with some shoulder length hair. And, BTW, these days unless you are a stickler for real human hair wigs, there is lots to choose from at reasonable prices. You can go from mild to wild and back again.

I once worked with a cis-woman who had nice brunette hair right down to her waist and she was tall. My, the maintenance on that was probably pretty substantial but did it ever look nice.
